It is 87 km from the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay or White Bay to Picton, and we allow 1 hr 38 min behind the wheel. You're on the Wollondilly side of the Highlands, which is the closest corner of our service area to Sydney — the run down the Hume is short enough that a mid-morning flight doesn't need a pre-dawn start.
Coming home the pressure comes off, which is exactly when tiredness lands. The run into the Highlands is long enough that doing it yourself after a flight is a genuinely worse idea than it sounds.
Picton is one of the closest suburbs we serve to Sydney — 1 of our 54 pickup points sit nearer the city, which is why the fare is at the lower end of our range.
A fair question, and sometimes the right answer.
| Hire Car | Transfer | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Daily rate for the whole stay | $275 each way |
| Driving after a long flight | You, jet-lagged | Not you |
| Unfamiliar roads at night | Yes | No |
| Child seats | Hired, fitted by you | Free, fitted before we arrive |
| Parking at the other end | Your problem | Not applicable |
| Useful once you are here | Yes, if you are touring | Book each trip |
A hire car earns its keep when the car is the point. For a wedding weekend, a cruise turnaround or a stay at a single venue it mostly sits in a car park being paid for, and somebody still has to stay sober to drive it.
Nothing about the arrival is left to chance. The ship is tracked, the driver is briefed with your name and number, and the meeting point is sent to your phone before the doors open.
The driver waits at the designated pick-up area at the terminal. We do not offer a meet-and-greet inside the terminal — we collect you kerbside at the designated pick-up point, which is quicker, and it is already in the fare. Waiting time and parking are already inside your $275, so a two-hour delay costs you nothing.
Ships usually dock early and disembark in groups over two to three hours. Tell us your disembarkation group and we time the pickup to it; these examples then add the 1 hr 38 min drive to Picton.
| Ship Docks | You Walk Out Around | Home By |
|---|---|---|
| 6:00am | 7:30am | 9:20am |
| 6:00am | 8:30am | 10:20am |
| 6:30am | 9:30am | 11:20am |
| 7:00am | 10:30am | 12:20pm |
We track the ship, so if disembarkation runs late the driver waits at no charge. The fare is $275, plus $20 before 6am, $10 after 8pm or $20 after 10pm.
$275 one way for one to two passengers, fixed before you travel, with tolls, fuel and GST included. The drive is 87 km and takes about 1 hr 38 min. It is the same fare in either direction.
About 1 hr 38 min for the 87 km run in normal conditions, plus however long you take to clear the terminal. Landing at 9:15am you would typically be at your door in Picton a little after 11:23am.
Seven days, twenty-four hours, at the same fare. Late arrivals are a large share of what we do, because the flights that land after ten at night are exactly the ones with no other way home.
Before. There are very few cars available in the Highlands at short notice and almost none at night, so arriving and hoping is the one approach that regularly fails. Booking costs nothing up front and can be cancelled without a fee.
Up to eleven passengers in one vehicle, and every fare allows a check-in bag and a carry-on each. If you are arriving with more than that, say so when you book: extra bags are $5 each and bulky items $10 each.
Yes, tell us when you book. A supermarket stop on the way in is a common request after a long trip. An extra stop is requoted before travel rather than added to the bill afterwards.
Book before you fly and there is one less thing to solve when you land.
